Once the shop was up and running, I got busy producing gift guides, creating signage campaigns and successfully launching new merchandise lines.
One of my favourite projects was an internal poster campaign I did to promote new CBC Shop products to our 10,000 employees. It got a lot of attention for its silliness and led to a dramatic increase in employee sales.
The campaign also got noticed by the higher-ups and led to my being asked to do a one-month secondment as the writer for the CBC’s Olympic Broadcasting Bid Campaign Presentation to the International Olympic Committee. It was intense and very fun!
One of my biggest and most successful pet projects was creating and ushering in the CBC Retro Logo line. The most popular product, which accounted for 30% of CBC Shop’s entire revenue, was the Retro 70's Logo T-Shirt. I’ve seen the distinctive tees on Canadian singers like Patrick Watson, Dan Mangan and a member of Broken Social Scene during David Letterman. It’s pretty neat to spot them on the street or have people send me pics (like this guy Alan below) when they have one and are told that I made it happen. It’s definitely my pride and joy!
